Case Study: Xoomsys, Inc.

Challenge
Xoomsys, Inc. is fairly typical of many Silicon Valley companies. Founded on a shoestring by a seasoned technology developer and entrepreneur in 2003, Xoomsys began hiring its first employees in August 2004 following initial seed funding. As a small start-up looking to lure top talent from well-known industry leaders, being able to offer highly competitive salary and benefits was essential to its success. The question for Xoomsys was how to do so without breaking the bank or scaring away investors.

Solution
Right from the start, Xoomsys's newly hired office manager, Chloe Takeuchi, had a plan. Chloe had managed other start-ups before and based on her experience and on the advice of a friend and fellow office manager, Chloe knew she wanted the new firm to outsource much of its HR – and certainly its payroll and benefits. "In building our staff, we were targeting experienced engineers and technology professionals from large corporations who were used to getting the very best in benefits," she says.

She had already heard good things about TriNet, so once Xoomsys's accounting firm, Macias & Ryan, weighed in with its positive recommendation, TriNet was assigned Xoomsys's payroll, benefits and other HR support functions.

"We selected TriNet because of their reputation and because they represented the best overall value," explains Chloe. "With TriNet, we give our people top-drawer health coverage at a substantially reduced rate, plus we all benefit from their HR expertise."

Results
"TriNet's become one of our hiring tools," says Chloe. "Our employees not only enjoy Fortune 100 level benefits, but they like the way they can access and update their own account information online. And if anyone has a question, we just pick up the phone."

Xoomsys now has a staff of nine and counting. The rapidly growing EDA simulation firm, which recently secured $7 million in first-round venture capital financing, says it plans to stick with TriNet.

"For me," Chloe concludes, "it has been painless. TriNet saves me a lot of time and worry. They do all our quarterly and year-end filings, plus they are there to help document and support all our new hires. With TriNet, HR really is a closed loop."
