TriNet Supports Non-Profit Community through Volunteer Activity
HR outsourcing company continues efforts to give back to East Bay community.
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (June 1, 2011) – TriNet, a provider of human resources outsourcing solutions to small businesses, participated as an anchor sponsor for Northern California’s Big Sunday weekend, May 14-15, an annual community service event that brought together volunteers and non-profit organizations to build better communities. Through the TriNet’s community service program, TriNet Cares, more than 40 employees volunteered to serve residents of the Family Emergency Shelter Coalition.
“Big Sunday’s philosophy aligns well with our company because of the way it leverages the non-profit community as part of a greater community,” said Greg Hammond, TriNet’s chief legal officer and the TriNet colleague who introduced the company to this particular volunteer opportunity. “TriNet as a company believes in what those types of organizations do: building and supporting communities.”
Big Sunday is a grassroots community organization that supported more than 50,000 volunteers at more than 500 projects in communities across Southern California, San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Now in its 13th year, Big Sunday looks beyond simple volunteering and aims to build communities by bringing people together, in the ‘everyone helps, everyone wins’ spirit.
“This event was a fantastic introduction of Big Sunday to the Bay Area, and truly what Big Sunday is all about,” said David Levinson, founder and executive director of Big Sunday. “Greg’s passion for expanding Big Sunday beyond Southern California is both inspiring and contagious. I only wish I could’ve been there in person to see the effort and spirit that was brought to this occasion.”
TriNet’s event occurred in two parts: on Saturday, colleagues and their families participated in a gardening party to pull up weeds, till the soil and plant flowers in nine different patches of land around the property. On Sunday, colleagues and their families hosted a barbecue for the residents and their families. In addition to lunch, there was a wealth of games and activities for the residents, 50 percent of whom are children. Activities included face painting, glitter tattoos, games, a bounce house and a magician.
FESCO is a non-profit organization located near TriNet’s San Leandro headquarters, in Hayward, and provides shelter and transitional housing to homeless and very low-income families across Alameda County. “We are very thankful for everything the TriNet team did to put this event together,” said Larissa Elizondo, a program coordinator at FESCO. “The residents had a great time and we’re even more amazed over the number of donations received. We truly appreciate it.”
